Pilot drilling
Procedure for micro-precision drills Procedure for RT 100 T
For the application of solid carbide micro-precision drills In order to achieve optimal machining results when produ-

For this pilot hole, the solid carbide micro-precision drill radii or on an uneven surface structure, we recommend the
4xD is optimally suitable. Its point angle and its diameter following machining steps:
tolerance are perfectly adapted. 1. Initial milling of surface, i.e. with Guhring’s centre cutting Ratio

# 6412 Tol. h7 angles to the entry angle of the drilling operation.
~0,01 2. Production of a cylindrical pilot hole (tolerance F9) with a mini-
mum drilling depth of 1 x D. For this operation we recommend
140° our Ratio drills RT 100 U or RT 100 F respectively.Thanks to a
135° 140 point angle and a m7 tolerance on diameter these Ratio
drills are especially suitable for this machining task.
3. Entry of spiral-flute deep hole drill RT 100T in the pilot hole at
a speed of approx. 300 rev./min and with a feed rate of approx.
500 mm/min.
4. Setting of coolant pressure and speed.
5. Continuous drilling to complete hole depth without wood
pecking.
6. For through holes with oblique exit, reduce the feed rate vf to
40% approx. 1 mm prior to break-through.
7. After reaching hole depth stop machine spindle and coolant
supply, withdrawal in top gear.
Centering
In order to achieve full performance with solid carbide
micro-precision drills from 8xD drilling depth, we
recommend centering.
The ExclusiveLine solid carbide micro-precision drill up
to 4xD, Guhring no. 6400, can be applied for this purpose.
The centering diameter should be approximately 2/3xD.
